Miss Dashwood is complete!

Another week another finished gift for Maggie's little bun in the oven. Everyone is really excited that we have a baby girl to buy for, andI am over the moon that I get to knit for a girl. I love her son, Charlie, but I never got into knitting for him. It will be different for Finn. She will be showered with knitwear, from day 1. :)
The Ugg booties are for her, and this week I finished Miss Dashwood, from Knitty.com

Here is Charlie modeling it for us. Thanks, boy.

Next on the needles is the Pinwheel baby sweater from elann.com This site is great! Tons of free paterns!

Here are the colors pallets I have chosen to knit.

Each sweater has 7 different colors, with color #4 as the arms. The greatest thing about this sweater is that it is basically a big circle with sleeves thrown in. The sweater can be worn with the sleeves toward the bottom when the baby is 6-9 months old. Roll the excess sleeve length up and it has a little hood as well. Once baby gets older, you flip it over and the "hood" becomes the bottom back of the sweater. The pattern says it can be worn up to 4 years old! Seems like a winner to me. I ordered the yarn last night, so I can start when the big package arrives this week! So excited!

My students will be turning in their baby sweaters this week, so come back next week for pics of their finished work! I can't wiat to see them!

First Post of the New Year

20th day of 2007 and I am finally finding a few minutes to blog. I have been knitting a lot, working a lot and that's about it! School has been back in session for 2 weeks and the kids are frantically knitting their final project. Over the winter holiday break, they were designing and knitting their own ideas. Here are some pics of what they came up with:

Ronald knit a patch for the back of a jacket. It is a playing card: the ace of spades

Kiera knit some earrings. Very fashionable.

Lucy made a warm hat with ear flaps and pom poms!

Jennifer made another doll! This one is for her baby sister.

Heather models a black and gray beanie.

Donations are rolling in for Stitches From the Heart. Here is Lauren, a senior, who made 30 baby hats! Way to go Lauren!!!

My personal knitting is doing well. I have made 4 of the Sheldon turtles (enough!!!!) from knitty.com and have discovered this great pattern from DIY for baby UGG boots. I can't stop making them!

Next onto the needles will be the trellis baby cable sweater from knitty.com My friend Maggie is having a girl in June, and she is asking for the girliest stuff so we can play dressup with her baby, Finn. Can't wait for Finn to wear her Uggs!

Last week I took a group of students on the UCLA Research boat out of Marina del Rey. We had an awesome time!

Here is a buoy with sea lions laying around. Lucky guys!

Three snowy egrets landed on the back of the boat when we were pulling back into the marina. My supre-cool new digital camera captured this:
